Riverdale S02E21- Judgement Night

Previously, Riverdale descended further into chaos, with the Black Hood shooting up the town hall during the Mayoral debate. Fangs is released from prison and try to push past the angry mob of citizens that stand outside. Archie stops Reggie from shooting Fangs, but Fangs still ends up with a bullet to the chest. Finally, we see that the Black Hood pays a late night visit to Cheryl.



The episode starts where it left off... Cheryl turns and runs at the sight of the Black Hood. Luckily, she fends him off with her bow and arrow. She informs Betty of his failed attack. Betty already has suspicions about her father being the Black Hood, so it looks like it's pointing to hall being the Black Hood or the main Black Hood. We know that if Hal is the Black Hood; there must be another as he clearly wasn't behind the shooting at the debate. Midge's mother reveals to Veronica that she shot Fangs, but the Serpents assume that it's still Reggie.


In the Lodge's residence, Veronica uncovers Hiram's plan to expose Fred's and Hermione's affair in an effort to destroy Fred's campaign. Papa Poutine's son seeks revenge for the death of his father and goes after Hermione and Veronica. He murders Andre and gains access to the appartment, where he barges in and chases them, but he's stopped by Hermione.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs led by Archie, find a distraught Reggie in Pop's. They've a bigger issue on hand, the Ghoulies have been released from prison and are angrier than before. They attack Pop's and Archie throws Molotovs off the roof of Pop's to fight them off. Their savior in a white police cruiser pulls up and saves them. Ex sheriff Keller fires one shot into the air to scare off the Ghoulies.

In the Cooper household, Hal reveals his dark side to Betty and Alice. He was the BLACK HOOD !! (Well one of them as he didn't attack the debate). He tells them his plans of dying together and although horrified, Betty and Alice knock him unconscious and alert the authorities. However, a man posing as the Black Hood attacks Archie and Fred at their home. He shoots Fred, but escapes from Archie's grasp. Fortunately, Fred was wearing a bulletproof vest, but this still leaves the question of who is he, if he's not Hal?

Penny Peabody steps back into the spotlight and she takes Toni hostage, but Jughead and Cheryl work together to get her back. F.P announces that Fangs died and the Serpents vote to fight the Ghoulies. Jughead is against the idea of fighting the Ghoulies, as they outnumber the Serpents 10 to 1. He decides to be the sacrificial lamb and offers his life, in return for no bloodshed. I have no idea why he'd put his trust in her, but she breaks her promise anyway. Later, F.P is seen carrying Jughead's lifeless, beaten body in his arms.

This episode felt as though they tried to make it action packed, but it just turned out to be confusing as it was hard to keep with the story. It was good how they managed to make Hal's character more complex, instead of your average grouchy dad. I dislike the new sheriff because he's Hiram's man on the inside. I can't wait to find out the other Black Hood's identity. We'll just have to wait until next week's episode, so stay tuned in...
