General Summary:
The movie centers around two desperate assistants who try to set up their horrible demanding bosses with each other.
Plot (Spoilers!) :
The movie starts off showing the hardships assistants face when their bosses make impossible demands, truly demonstrating that assistants are ordinary people too. However, two assistants (Harper as Zoey Deutch and Charlie as Glen Powell) are forced to stay after hours as their bosses have nothing else to do but work to fill their time. Harper struggles to find love as she's never available to make dinner and Charlie's relationship with Suze, a model who pushes him around as he's not the type of man that has people running around for him, instead he's often the one running around for them.

The two assistants meet when Harper forgets to bring money to pay the delivery man for the food she ordered for her boss. Charlie steps in and pays him for it, he takes the cheeseburger up to his boss, while she bargains with him to take the truffle and cheese dish up to her boss. Charlie's girlfriend, Suze is angry that he's so busy with his job that their relationship is on the back burner and Harper is forced to watch her best friend get engaged with the one she loves, while she struggles to find anyone. Harper's boss, Kirsten Stevens, is a female sports reporter for ESPN, while Charlie's Boss, Rick Otis, is a well-connected venture capitalist.

When Harper and Charlie meet again, they start complaining about how they're becoming their bosses and they start discussing what it would be like to set them up together. Both of them start talking about how they want to complete their dreams before it's too late, Harper wants to write a piece that would be published on Kirsten's site and Charlie wants to be promoted so, that he could possibly get a recommendation from him that would guarantee his success. The two devise a plan on how they could set them up, so they decide on getting stuck in an elevator together. They get some help from the maintenance man, Creepy Tim.They run into expected difficulties when a delivery man is also in the elevator with them. The whole situation ends with the claustrophobic delivery man peeing in a glass that he was supposed to deliver, but the two become familiar with each other. Harper informs Kirsten that Rick had asked security for her contact info, although, it wasn't necessarily true and Charlie mentions to Rick in a passing conversation that Mark Cuban had been planning on investing in her site, which intrigues Rick further.
Charlie and Harper both schedule for them to go to a New York Yankees game, in seats right beside each other. Harper and Charlie attend the game as well and this time proves to be good bonding time for Harper and Charlie as he sees her sporty side come out. Charlie puts in a word to the announcer that's in charge of the Kissing Cam. With a bit of encouragement from the crowd, Kirsten and Rick kiss that excites Harper and Charlie as their plan is now in motion. The next day, neither boss is nowhere to be seen which is unusual, considering neither have been late to work a day in their life. It freaks out the two assistants, but their bosses stroll in, to their relief. Also, they got off early after their bosses leave for the day. It means that Charlie has time to prepare dinner for Suze and Harper can get ready for her mini golf date with a guy from tinder.

Kirsten almost has a freak out when Rick doesn't call her, but when Charlie persuades him to do so, it helps to keep their relationship afloat. Also, Harper schedules a bikini wax for Kirsten, due to the fact that Rick is repulsed at the sight of any body hair on a woman. Harper moves forward with the mini golf guy she has been seeing and Charlie has more time to hang out with Suze. They both have important engagements next weekend so they have to ensure that their bosses are away on a vacation in a place with no cell service. However, their bosses hit a speed bump in their relationship when a fight occurs at a Korean barbecue restaurant and the two bosses lash out at their assistants due to their frustration with the situation. Rick even destroys Charlie's science project that he did for his son on lemon batteries and Kirsten hurts Harper's feelings when Harper makes a mistake with Kirsten's schedule. Harper spends the night helping Rick come up with a new science project for Rick's son.
Rick shows up to the office drunk and has a heart to heart with Charlie about what he should do about his relationship with Kirsten. Harper narrowly escapes the awkward situation between the two and the two bosses reconcile. They go to Nantucket for a wine tasting festival and Harper reveals to Charlie and Tucker that golf guy hasn't called her in a while, which is worrying her considering that he said that he'd be her date for Becca & Max's engagement party tonight. In the meantime, Harper goes with the boys to a pool party that Suze invited Charlie to. They have fun together and forget about their worries. Charlie catches Harper texting golf guy in an effort to elicit a response, but she discloses her concerns that she slept with him and she's not usually like that. Charlie offers to be her date for the engagement response as he's fed up with Suze and wants to make her jealous. Harper and Charlie get drunk and start dancing crazily on the dance floor. They slow dance and this is the part where, Harper decides to spill her thoughts on how crazy relationships that shouldn't work out, do which can also be said for some friendships, even theirs. Harper and Charlie leave the party early in search of pizza. Once the pizza has been obtained, they head to Charlie's room where they gorge on their greasy, takeaway pizza. Then, Harper heads back home with two pizza slices to go, leaving Charlie alone to finish the rest of the pizza in his room.

The next day, Charlie heads over to Harper's office, where Rick and Kirsten are waiting for them. They announce that they're getting married in St. John's and they're to plan it for them. Kirsten tells Harper that she'd have enough time to write the article that she's been longing for and Rick informs Charlie that he'll be getting the promotion that he desired. After discussing her schedule, Kirsten gives Harper divulges on why she's been hard on her. Rick mentions to Charlie at the District Club, that he's going to have sex with his ex-wife, Kiki. Harper and Charlie celebrate their success on their plan and start making arrangements for their wedding. When Harper goes to Rick's office to collect Rick's credit card to pay for the ring, she overhears Kiki on the phone to Rick. Charlie justifies why they should help Rick cheat on Kirsten and Harper realizes that they're going too far with this. Charlie tells Harper his opinions on why she can't write the article, she's been meaning to write. Harper shows up to the baby shower that Kirsten's attending and reveals that they were the ones who set them up together and she doesn't really love him. Kirsten gets fed up and fires Harper. Using her free time, Harper now tries to write the article. With encouragement from Becca, she goes to a bar to write an article. Charlie dines out with Suze at a fancy restaurant before realizing that this relationship just isn't for him anymore. He runs to the airport to confront Rick and Kirsten. He encourages Rick not to marry Kirsten because he doesn't know her at all and announces that he quit. Kirsten leaves Rick and we see that Harper finally finishes her article.
Rick comes to Charlie's appartment and asks Charlie what are his ex-wife's favorite things. Harper goes back to the office to collect her things when she meets Kirsten. Kirsten offers her job back and Harper politely declines, but offers to help her find a new assistant. Kirsten agrees to read Harper's article. When Harper leaves the building, she sees Charlie waiting outside and they catch up. Charlie admits that he has feelings for her and they start to say what they hate about each other, but despite that they kiss.
Conclusion:
Overall, I thought that this movie brought attention to the hardships faced by assistants when trying to meet their bosses' demands in a lighthearted way. Although, I thought that it didn't have to be as dramatic as it was at the ending. I found it funny how Charlie and Harper come together to set up their bosses, but realize that they're suited each other regardless of how they hate a few things that the other does. I recommend this movie for a night in with someone special, whomever they may be. The movie doesn't take things too seriously so it won't make you cry at any one point. I thought Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell's chemistry was very believable and their acting was phenomenal.
